WALGETT SOLAR FARM TO POWER UTS

The University of Technology Sydney recently signed its third renewable energy power purchase agreement, this time for the output of the 32MW Walgett Solar Farm in the Orana region.

The University said it will purchase the equivalent of half its annual electricity demand from the solar farm, through a deal that will kick start construction of the $40 million project.

The Walgett solar farm is being developed by NSW-based renewables outfit Epuron, with construction expected to begin soon and first generation to commence in mid-2019.

The farm is expected to produce 25MWac of power over 90ha of land approximately 5km north of the town. ONce complete it will supply around 63,000MWh a year of electricity enough to power 9,600 homes.
