BOURKE'S NEW ABATTOIR OPENS

3 January 2019

Bourke's abattoir is open and aims to have 100 people employed by the end of January.

The local council says the abattoir started processing goats on January 2 and currently have 60 employed workers on site.

There have been major delays to the project's construction and in November contractors claimed they were owed hundreds of thousands of dollars by the developer.

Staff numbers are expected to increase in the coming weeks with the idea that specialist staff will be training local staff to make sure they are bought up to speed and multi-skilled.
