Business: Outback Beds, Louth

Being a guest of an Outback Beds provider is to ‘stay in the Outback with friends.’ The network has adopted this catch phrase to match the country hospitality offered by its 23 members, who offer unique accommodation in a picturesque location. From station life to pub stays, shearers’ huts, secluded lodges and remote retreats, there is a range of options for the adventurous traveller.

There are various Outback Bed members in the Orana region - in Bourke, Dubbo, Lightning Ridge, Louth, Walgett and Tilpa - which are complemented by other providers in southern NSW and Qld.

The area is a unique part of Australia that is brimming with heritage and history, great food and experiences and friendly people. The network started with members along the Darling River, with new members chosen for the interesting qualities they can add to the network.

The main role of Outback Beds is marketing these locations to travellers who want to get off the beaten track. They provide quality places to stay and a wonderful way to see some iconic destinations. Some members also provide great food and outdoor activities, including bikes, kayaks and farm tours although this depends on the locality. The list is long but the end result is a thoroughly enjoyable, restful and hopefully restorative holiday.

Visitors can choose to go at their own pace, stay in one place or choose one or more of six different loop trails. in this way, they can visit national park areas, artesian spas, historic trails and nature reserves.

Outback Beds is driven by a hardworking team of members who volunteer their time to advertising and marketing, answering enquiries, social media and administration.  The website is maintained professionally. They provide a high level of friendly customer service, contributing to the community through worthy local and regional organisations.  At the moment, this involves assistance during difficult times such as drought and hardship.

Outback Beds has won a number of awards over the years and its properties continue to be among the premier “must visit” locations in Outback NSW.

Clients are travellers, including individuals, families and community groups that visit the regions for rest and relaxation, heritage experiences, food and wine or visiting family and friends.

Outback Beds gives out 100,000 free maps every 18 months and boasts unique locations, friendly members who know their areas, quality assured accommodation and enthusiastic volunteers.

While reliant on members’ efforts and limited budgeting, they aim to offer package holidays for domestic and overseas markets to multiple locations, and to become a trusted brand for international visitors.

There is also the opportunity to extend the region and touring routes in the future.
