FANTASTIC FEEDBACK FROM COBAR WORKSHOP
Cobar business representatives have described the recent industry consultation as a great way to exchange information with RDA Orana along with other companies in the METS (Mining, Equipment, Technology and Services) sector.
Budd Exploration Drilling, Glencore CSA, Copper City Tyre Service and Face Contracting were all represented at the breakfast workshop presented by RDA Orana and mining industry consultant Clare Sykes.
With 25 years’ experience in operational and management roles across the public and private sectors, Ms Sykes spoke about global challenges, the evolution of technology and cluster development.
“The evolution of technology is creating unprecedented transparency to the industry and with it comes increased social expectations, regulatory scrutiny and investor pressure,” she explained.
Ms Sykes encouraged participants to list the positive and negative aspects of the industry as well as undertaking a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis with the group.
Participant Regan Kings from Face Contracting described the event as a valuable exercise for the industry.
“Thanks again for a great workshop. You did a great job and it’s really refreshing to see you coming straight to the people to ask and assess rather then roll out and hope for the best.”
The free workshop was held as part of the Orana and Central West O2N Export Hub Project, an exciting initiative designed to support industry development.
The Cobar event was the first of five workshops to be held across the Orana and Central West regions during October. The consultations include one on one mentoring, connection with government export services, matching investment with innovations, business planning for export readiness and advice on product development.
The other workshops will be held in Mudgee on October 15, Dubbo on October 16, Parkes on October 17 and Orange on October 18.
