Preparing businesses for the challenges ahead

Dubbo Chamber of Commerce President Matt Wright is looking forward to welcoming demographer Bernard Salt and recruitment expert Greg Savage to Dubbo,
as guests of the Orana@Work Employer Summit on May 22.

“To have someone of the calibre of these guys is pretty special,” he said.

“I am a big fan of Bernard Salt - he speaks with so much clarity with his ideas and thoughts. I find him really intriguing.

“Greg is someone I haven’t heard speak but he has some amazing credentials.”

Mr Wright said there are challenges ahead for recruitment in the region, with employees ‘spoilt for choice’ by the sheer number of available opportunities.

“It’s about preparing businesses for some of these challenges of recruiting and retaining staff to compete in that space.”

In the modern workplace, Mr Wright said it’s not just a good salary that keeps staff in jobs.

“Money is a big thing for a lot of people but to compete in that space, businesses need to consider flexibility, workplace environment, ongoing training
and provision of resources.”

Mr Wright said the Orana@Work Employer Summit will also give business owners an opportunity to meet and mingle with like-minded professionals.

“Sharing ideas between businesses is important. I think sometimes we underestimate the power of marketing.”

The Dubbo Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc is a not for profit organisation working to represent the interests of business and to provide opportunities
